Where to Start

For major projects ‘where to start’ is the first stage in the building process and will go something like below.

  • Decide your needs and ideas

  • Develop a starting budget (contact Built for Living for a basic starting guide)

  • Consider your preferred build period (Built for Living can help)

  • Talk to your neighbours about your plans

  • Be clear of the need to find alternative accommodation if necessary

  • Choose a builder that works with a designer (recommended) like Built for living

  • Plan your project to sign off - may take weeks/months of back & forth discussions (fee’s)

  • Organise the consultant reports required for assessment - allow weeks min. (fee’s)

  • Submit prepared plans to council/certifier (fee’s) - allow weeks for CDC, months for DA

  • After successful approval you are ready for ‘stage 2’ - to sign a building contract, then…

  • Builder arranges compulsory home owners warranty insurance - required for approval

  • Deposit paid to builder - generally 10%, start date booked

  • Neighbours notified and work begins

If you would like to discuss your project in more detail, you can book a building consultation with us, which can help provide ideas on where to start.
